Overview

On this one-day tour, you will discover the historical and cultural significance of Garni and Geghard, marveling at their architectural beauty and natural surroundings.

Garni – The pagan temple of Garni, believed to have been built in 77 AD, is located in the Kotayk region of Armenia on the left bank of the Azat River. Dedicated to Mihr, the Armenian pagan god of light and the Sun, the temple harmonizes perfectly with its natural surroundings.

Geghard – “Geghard” means spear in Armenian, referencing the spear that wounded Christ on the Cross, allegedly brought to the monastery by Apostle Thaddeus. Known as Geghardavank (the Monastery of the Spear), the monastery housed this relic for 500 years. Founded in the 4th century, the monastery achieved its current form in the 13th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It stands as one of Armenia’s most majestic architectural gems.

PARZ LAKE – GOSHAVANK – HAGHARTSIN

(130 km to the North-East of Yerevan )

The Parz Lich ( Clear Lake ) is situated 9km South-East of the town of Dilijan at an altitude of 1350m. It is fed by mountainous springs. It is 300m long, 100m wide and reaches up to 10m in depth.
Starting your walk from the lake, you proceed (about 3 hours) along forest paths to Goshavank Monastery. The XII-XIII century monastery played a very special role in medieval Armenia’s religious, cultural, and educational life. Here stands one of the masterpieces of Armenian unique art, the famous “Aseghnagorts” khachkar – “Embroidered” cross tone, the work of sculptor Varpet (Master) Poghos. On the way back (by car) to Yerevan, you can visit the Monastery of Haghartsin
